As a geographic information system (GIS) analyst, Brian works with his colleagues on the Knowledge Management team at KFL&A Public Health to develop platforms to map health information gathered within our communities. Working closely with various programs from nutrition, to school health and family health, Brian analyzes relationships between where people live and how it affects their health.

Working with public health professionals. | Analyzing and mapping data. |
Brian and his team spend each day researching and developing maps and platforms that are used to inform decision makers within the KFL&A area.
Brian has recently worked with a team of dietitians to analyze and map various food programs within the community and outline community access to local grocery stores. The map included multiple information layers, making it easy for decision makers to see the statistics and areas that are materially and socially deprived. The main purpose of this project was to assist KFL&A Public Health to uncover the barriers in the community to access healthy food. It is now used by both dietitians, researchers, and program leaders to make evidence based decisions to improve the health of the community and address food and nutritional needs.
