Child Care and Early Years Act
Under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, S.O. 2014, c. 11, Sched. 1, children attending a licensed child care centre, who are not in attendance at a school (e.g., infants, toddlers, and preschoolers), must be immunized as recommended by the local Medical Officer of Health, or provide a valid Child Care and Early Years Act Ministry of Ontario Statement of Conscience or Religious Belief exemption form or a valid Child Care and Early Years Act Ministry of Ontario Statement of Medical Exemption form.
In the KFL&A area, the Medical Officer of Health requires that children are immunized against the following diseases according to Ontario's Publicly Funded Immunization Schedules:
- Diphtheria
- Tetanus
- Pertussis
- Polio
- Haemophilus influenzae (type b)
- Measles
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Meningococcal disease
- Pneumococcal disease
- Rotavirus (as eligible)
Registering for child care?
Take these steps:
- Have your child’s immunization record reviewed with your health care provider to ensure they are up-to-date.
- If immunizations are needed, have your child immunized at your family doctor, or at a KFL&A Public Health immunization clinic. Call 613-549-1232 or 1-800-267-7875 for assistance.
- Once your child’s immunizations are up-to-date, report immunizations to KFL&A Public Health online, download the free CANImmunize app for iOS or Android, or by phone at 613-549-1232 or 1-800-267-7875 .
- If your child care facility requires KFL&A Public Health to review your child’s immunization record please call, 613-549-1232 or 1-800-267-7875 to book a review.
- Bring a copy of your child’s immunization record to your child care facility.
