KFL&A Public Health has several programs, clinics, and services that health care providers can refer patients to promote health.
Blind-Low Vision |
KFL&A Public Health organizes services in partnership with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) and local children's treatment centres. Referrals to the Blind-Low Vision Program can be made by a doctor, ophthalmologist, optometrist, parent or caregiver. |
Dental |
Dental screening and fluoride varnish programs - KFL&A Public Health Dental Program provides these programs in elementary schools, community settings, and community dental hygiene clinics for children and youth ages 0 to 17. Community Dental Hygiene Clinics - Screening, assessment and preventive treatment for children and youth 17 and under are available at KFL&A Public Health. Healthy Smiles Ontario - A government-funded dental program that provides free preventive, routine, and emergency dental services for children and youth 17 years old and under from low-income households. Families can apply online or call KFL&A Public Health 613-549-1232, ext. 1218 for information and eligibility. Dental Treatment Assistance Fund (DTAF) - A charitable resource created by KFL&A Public Health to provide financial assistance to adults in the KFL&A area who need emergency dental treatment, but can’t afford it. Food For You, Food For Two prenatal program |
Food for You, Food for Two is a free prenatal program for pregnant people and their support person(s). Each week participants will connect with other pregnant people, learn about food, nutrition, pregnancy and taking care of a baby. Due to our COVID-19 response, Food For You, Food For Two is being offered virtually, in the form of a private Facebook Group. If you have a client that would benefit from this program, please complete a referral form. |
Healthy Babies Healthy Children (HBHC) |

Speech and Language |
Health care providers monitor growth and development, including a child's speech and language skills. For example, at the 18-month well baby visit, parents are encouraged to self-refer for speech and language support when concerns are present. Early Expressions is the system of partner agencies in KFL&A that provides speech and language services to children and their families from birth up to the end of junior kindergarten. |
Substances |
TobaccoHealth care providers can play a major role in helping patients to stop smoking. It is important to provide an open and non-judgemental practice where patients can be honest about their tobacco use.
