Our health is not just influenced by our health care. Factors such as our biology and genetics, and how we grow up, live, learn, work, and play also play a role.
In 2016, the estimated population in Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox & Addington (KFL&A) region was 204,116. In 2011, 61.5% of KFL&A residents lived in large urban regions, 4.3% lived in small population centres ,and 34.2% lived in rural areas.
39.1% were led by couples with children.
15.4% were led by lone parents, and the remaining households did not have children.
In 2011, 17.3% of the population did not have a high school certificate, diploma or degree.
Among those aged 15 years and over, 58.6% were employed, 5.1% were unemployed, and 36.3% were not in the labour force.
Males were more likely to have less education, be employed, work full time, and make more money than females.
In 2011, $75,933 was the average household income (before tax) in KFL&A.
30.3% of households were rented.
In 2013, 1 in 10 homes in the KFL&A area did not know if there would be enough food next week or next month.
Families with low incomes are often forced to use their food budget to pay for other expenses, such as rent or utility bills.
36% were led by lone parents and 7.9% were led by couples with children.
1 in 5 children 17 years or younger were living with low income.
Many factors contribute to health; it is important to consider all of them when planning and delivering programs for children and parents.
