This formative evaluation of the TCGS assessed both process and outcome components (See Appendix 1).
Process Evaluation Objectives
- To determine the number of participants who enrol in the TCGS.
- To monitor attendance at each session.
- To assess whether content is delivered as planned (Appendix 2).
- To determine if session content is appropriate.
Outcome Evaluation Objectives
- To identify participants' stage of the Transtheoretical Model of Change at the start of the series and to identify any changes in stage from the start of the series to the end of the series
- To assess the level of importance that participants give to smoking cessation skills at the start of the program and to identify any changes in importance from the start of the series to the end of skill specific sessions.
- To assess participants' confidence in using the smoking cessation skills taught, at the end of each skill specific session.
- To describe participants' intention to use the smoking cessation skills taught, at the end of each topic-specific session.
- To describe participants' use of the smoking cessation skills over the 8-week program.
- To assess participants' overall satisfaction with the program.
