This study was designed to determine whether the introduction of a combined screening tool would increase the degree to which health professionals screen their female patients for tobacco and alcohol use, and domestic abuse. The specific objectives of this study were to determine:
- The proportion of family physicians, midwives, and nurse practitioners who routinely screened their female patients for tobacco use, alcohol use, and abuse before receiving the new tool.
- The change in proportion of family physicians, midwives and nurse practitioners who routinely screen their female patients for alcohol use and abuse after receiving the new tool.
- The proportion of family physicians, midwives, and nurse practitioners who use the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Abuse Screening Tool, after being introduced to it, to screen their female patients for alcohol use and abuse.
- The proportion of family physicians, midwives, and nurse practitioners who intended to use the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Abuse Screening tool for Women in the future.
