South East Health Unit (Legacy KFL&A Public Health) provides public health programs to more than 209,000 people living in our community. Our main office is located in Kingston, with staff members and volunteers also working out of branch offices in Napanee, and Cloyne.

We have over 200 staff and volunteers who deliver public health programs and services to the people of the KFL&A area.

Employment opportunities 

Research Associate - Full-time term (18 months) 
$91,965 to $108,163 per year

South East Health Unit is a public health agency with over 500 staff and volunteers who deliver public health programs and services to the people of the South East region. There is an immediate opening for a Research Associate within the Knowledge Management portfolio, working out of the Kingston office.

The Research Associate is responsible for encouraging and engaging in applied public health research to promote and support a critical, scientific approach to program planning and evaluation, as well as population health assessment and surveillance. This role requires the application of technical skills, including experience with orchestration tools (e.g., Dagster), and demonstrated proficiency in R and Python for statistical analysis, data visualization, and automation. The Research Associate also works with relational databases such as SQL Server to manage, query, and analyze large datasets effectively.

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in a relevant health-related field; specific experience in research, knowledge exchange, program evaluation, surveillance and population health assessment; as well as a minimum of three (3) years related research experience, preferably in a public health environment.

Human Resources Officer - Full-time term (18 months) 
$80,317 to $94,476 per year

South East Health Unit is a public health agency with over 500 staff and volunteers who deliver public health programs and services to the people of the South East region. There is an immediate opening for a Human Resources Officer within the Corporate Services portfolio, working out of the Kingston office.

In collaboration with the Associate Director, Human Resources, the Human Resources Officer is responsible for proactively providing support, advice and guidance to managers and employees on their employment related needs, including:  recruitment and selection, labour relations, compensation and benefits administration, and human resources administration. 

The successful candidate will have a college diploma or university degree in Human Resources or equivalent; certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation or in process of working towards designation and 3 years HR experience in a unionized environment, including experience in the following functional areas:  recruitment, compensation, benefits, and HR administration.

Volunteer opportunities 

Volunteer opportunities vary by time of year and type of event. We offer volunteers a range of opportunities in the following areas:

  • General support volunteers assist with various health promotion and health protection special events and projects. Volunteers may assist agency teams with internal requests and odd jobs, such as replenishing supplies, putting together resources packages, providing activity support or monitoring the safety of event participants.

KFL&A Public Health volunteers are an important part of a dedicated team working towards better health. We welcome and encourage applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available upon request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the application process.

Applications are kept on file in volunteer resources for a period of six months.
