Parents, caregivers and youth are invited to an information evening to learn more about the dangers of opioids. Illicit fentanyl, a highly potent opioid, has been confirmed in the Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington area in a variety of fake prescription pills and other street drugs, such as cocaine, crystal meth, heroin, and marijuana. Illicit fentanyl is known to be deadly in small amounts, making the risk of overdosing extremely high. Ingesting even a small amount can be fatal.

Information evenings will be held at the following locations:

Tuesday, June 6, 2017
Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School
6:30 p.m. Community carousel and light refreshments
7:00 p.m. Presentations

Monday, June 12, 2017
Napanee District Secondary School
6:00 p.m. Community carousel and light refreshments
6:30 p.m. Presentations

A panel of health professionals and community partners will present to attendees on the following topics:

  • Opioids, illicit fentanyl and overdose
  • Community resources available for students in secondary school
  • Police perspective: Know the law and what the police are seeing in our community
  • Parenting: How to talk to your kids

Community partner displays will be available for viewing. Training on how to properly use naloxone kits will also be available.

Media are invited to attend the event to interview presenters and attendees.
