November is Fall Prevention Month

Attend a Free Fall Prevention Presentation

Kingston – Injuries due to falls are a serious public health concern across the lifespan. In Ontario, falls account for 85% of injury-related hospitalizations among older adults and are the leading cause of hospital admissions for children, more than all other injuries combined.

One in three older adults over the age of 65 and one in two over the age of 80 will have a fall each year.  For older adults, falls can lead to death, cause broken or fractured bones, increase the need for support by caregivers, and add pressure to the health care system. In children, falls may result in head injuries, which can have long-term impacts like mental health concerns and poorer performance at school.

November is Fall Prevention Month.  KFL&A Public Health is hosting a fall prevention presentation followed by an introduction to Tai Chi. This is an opportunity for older adults, family members and caregivers to learn what they can do to prevent falls and fall-related injuries.  Registration is required, call 613-549-1232, ext. 1571. Space is limited.

Free Fall Prevention Presentation (includes 30 minute Tai Chi session)
