Kingston, ON —On Monday, June 11, 2018, KFL&A Public Health will be a satellite host for the upcoming workshop entitled Strategies for Opioid De-Implementation in Primary Care.

This one-day workshop is designed for inter-professional health (IPH) teams and will focus on the tools and approaches health professionals can start implementing right away with regards to opioid stewardship. Experts in the areas of pain, addiction, and medication management will share strategies with participants to help protect the safety of their patients. This workshop is part of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s program of supports for managing opioid use and responding to the opioid crisis in Ontario.

KFL&A Public Health is hosting this workshop in collaboration with local and provincial experts, including: Kingston Community Health Care, Queen’s Family Health Team, Centre of Addictions and Mental Health (CAMH), and the Association of Family Health Teams of Ontario (AFHTO).

Confirmed workshop speakers include:

  • Dr. Rupa Patel, Kingston CHC - Opioids and Chronic Pain: Case Studies and Personal Experience
  • Erin Desmarais, Cynthia Leung, and Abigail Scott, Queens FHT - Role of Interprofessional Health Care Providers in Opioid De-implementation
  • Tools Showcase featuring Jesse Lamothe (Hamilton Family Health Team), Tara Lonergan (eHealth Centre of Excellence), Amanda van Hal (Centre for Effective Practice), and Dr. Ryan Pratchett-Marble (Marathon Family Health Team)
