KINGSTON – More than 11,000 students and staff from 40 schools in Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox & Addington (KFL&A) will take part in the 21st annual Jingle Bell Run. Students will be donating a non-perishable food in exchange for a jingle bell and participating in a 1 km festive fit break where they will walk, run or skip around their school or community “with bells on”. This is a partnership between KFL&A Public Health, local school boards, and local food banks to help gather food donations for families in need.

Where:

Students and teachers from 40 schools in KFL&A will be participating. Media are welcome to go to Southview Public School (18 Golf Course Lane) or Bayridge Public School.  The Bayridge walk will take place on the Bayridge Secondary School Track (1059 Taylor-Kidd Blvd.) for photos and interviews. Upon arrival and prior to photographing or speaking to any children, please check in with the principal.

When:

Friday, December 2, 2022. The Jingle Bell Run will start at various times, depending on the school.

The start time at Southview Public School is 2:30 p.m. Contact is Aline LaRochelle.

The start time at Bayridge Public School is 2:30 p.m. Contact is Mike Chase.

Why:

Research shows that approximately two thirds of children and youth in Canada do not meet the physical activity recommendation within the Canadian 24-hour Movement Guidelines. For better brain health, all children and youth should be physically active on a regular basis. The Jingle Bell Run encourages children and youth to be active while helping those who are less fortunate.
