First lab confirmed cases of influenza A identified in the KFL&A region

KFL&A Public Health has received laboratory confirmation of the first case of influenza A for the 2023-2024 season. The risk of influenza transmission follows the pattern of disease activity in the community, which is currently low. Recent surveillance efforts conducted by KFL&A Public Health has found the presence of mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus (WNV) in the Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox and Addington region. Kingston — Environment Canada has issued a multi-day heat warning, beginning today through to Thursday, for the City of Kingston, and Frontenac and Lennox and Addington counties. Maximum temperatures are expected to be in the high twenties to low thirties, with minimum temperatures in the high teens to low twenties, bringing little relief from the heat. High levels of air pollution will develop tonight due to smoke from forest fires over northeastern Ontario and Quebec, resulting in deteriorated air quality. Conditions may improve for some areas Friday. Air quality and visibility can fluctuate over short distances and can vary from hour to hour due to the wildfire smoke.

The Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox & Addington (KFL&A) Community Drug Strategy Advisory Committee (CDSAC) is exploring decriminalization of illicit substances for personal use by conducting local community consultation. Community members are asked to complete an online survey and share their thoughts on decriminalization.
