Kingston – A new COVID-19 vaccine initiative with over 330 pharmacies participating from three regions in Ontario, including KFL&A, Windsor-Essex, and Metro Toronto is set to launch on Friday, March 12, 2021. KFL&A region may receive over 20,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to share with over 40 pharmacies in the KFL&A region, each initially receiving approximately 500 doses.

“Pharmacists are highly qualified and experienced in immunizing our community residents and are working together to quickly mobilize and action booking and administering the vaccine in a safe and effective manner at their pharmacy,” said Jen Baker, Chair of Board of Directors of Ontario Pharmacists Association and Owner of Loyalist Pharmacy.

We understand that residents of KFL&A are ready and eager to receive their COVID-19 vaccine. The current eligibility for this pharmacy initiative is for those individuals 60 to 64 years of age. It is expected that the eligibility requirements will change as the initiative is rolled out across Ontario.

“Given our large geographical area, the launch of this pharmacy initiative allows us to provide greater access to COVID-19 vaccines across the KFL&A region,” said Dr. Kieran Moore, Medical Officer of Health at KFL&A Public Health. “Additionally, we will continue to increase accessibility and capacity of vaccine availability by fully engaging our primary care partners in the KFL&A vaccination strategy too.”

Pharmacies are receiving many phone calls so please be patient as they work through getting their online booking system set up. In preparation for your booked appointment, please do not arrive more than 5 minutes before your appointment, come prepared with your health card, wear a face covering and short-sleeved shirt, and adhere to physical distancing inside and outside the pharmacy.

Once the local pharmacies are confirmed, a list of the participating pharmacies will be made available on KFL&A Public Health’s website. Visit the Government of Ontario's website for up-to-date information on the vaccine and implementation phases.
