Ways to Wellness challenge - October
The challenge
Regular physical activity can help boost your mood, sharpen your focus, reduce your stress, and improve your sleep. Even small increases in physical activity have benefits!Step into fall with our October walking challenge! Try to add more steps to your day and walk your way to wellness!
Tips to beat the challenge
Set a goal and get started.
-
Set a goal and make being active a priority. Get a comfortable pair of walking shoes, and be prepared by keeping your shoes at work, by the door, or in the car! Walk with a friend, a group, or with your dog. Get started!
Be active and fit it in.
-
Take every opportunity to be active. Think creatively about how you can add “steps” to your day. When possible, park farther from your workplace, get off your bus a stop or two early, take the stairs rather than the elevator, and walk to go shopping or to do other errands. Fit it in!
Set a routine and stick with it.
-
Build walking into your routine. Put it on your calendar. Set goals to increase steps, track your progress in a log, and buddy-up for encouragement. Remember that each step adds up. Stick with it!
Increase time and ramp it up.
-
How often - Try to walk more frequently.
-
How hard - Walk more briskly over time.
-
How long - Try to increase the distance you walk. Each week, add a few minutes to your time. Ramp it up!
